I didn't apply through school, if that's what you're implying by onsite. I have a Masters degree in a quantitative field and around 4 years' experience in data science. The city I live in has a BCG genralist consulting office, but the nearest GAMMA hub is in another city. All my interviews were VC, where I connected with interviewers in the other city or overseas, from my local BCG office. Regarding case studies in interviews, the homework case was analytical. Others varied based on the work the interviewer did. People who work in GAMMA had cases with more numbers and charts, case interviews with generalist consultants were less analytical and more abstract in some sense. In both rounds - second and third - one interviewer was from GAMMA and other from generalist consulting. Hope this helps! And all the best with your interview!

Hey Ramii, Congratulation on your achievement! I am in the onsite stage now. I wonder have you encountered pure business case on the onsite interview? For the tech case, do you mind give me a structure of it? Thank you so much!

When you say 3rd round do you mean onsite? I have my onsite and dont exactly know what will come for interview - an analytical case study or a MBA case interview?

The HR described analytical case study as "They will give a scenario, ask for what data will u need, what Machine Learning algos can you run, what are the risks involved". Did you face any such interview? Do you also mean the same when you say more analytical? I am confused because no Glassdoor review mentions this at all and I don't even know what to practice and from where. Your inputs would be very helpful. Thanks a lot!

Yes that sounds like a good description of analytical case studies I had in my interview. I'd add making business decisions based on the data they give you to that, but those calculations would be rather simple. I think most BCG interviews posted on Glassdoor are for generalist consulting practices and not Gamma, which might have caused the confusion.

Cool. So one last point because I think this is the most important piece, your analytical case studies did have discussions involving Machine Learning algorithms? I dont want to keep preparing all the possible algorithms and later realize it was of no use. So if you can please elaborate on this. Also, did you find a good resource to practice these kind of case studies? Any links/videos would be helpful. I am really sorry for disturbing you. This is a big call and I desperately want to convert it.

No worries, I totally get the feeling when you're in the 3rd round and it's all so close to the offer. In my opinion algorithms aren't the most important part of these interviews, framing the problem and asking right question is. As long as you understand which algorithm would be best to apply to achieve whatever business objective you've, you'll be fine. Also think about basic data manipulations you need to do for that - say you're suggesting the use of proportional hazard survival model, know how your input data should look like. Also know how your model stacks up in bias-variance matrix. What I'm trying to get at is, no one expects you to hypertune a neural net in the interview, they want to know when you'd use a neaural net. Or say if naive bayes comes up they would expect to know the naive assumptions. Apart from these it's all about the questions you ask, assumptions and decisions you make like generalist cases. I couldn't find any resourse for analytical cases, keep solving generalist cases and go a bit further - think about how data science could be used for the case in hand. And of course, work on the feedbacks you've received from previous rounds. All the best! :)

Congratulations on the achievement! Do you mind sharing which location you are at? Also, I'm also curious that when discussing salaries, are Glassdoor's salary data for general consultant a good metric to use? Thank you!

Hey Man, Thank you for your helpful answers. I got through. Any tips on negotiation and approx salaries and joining bonus. I have no contacts at BCG and hence your tentative ranges would help a lot.

Hi, do you think you might be able to help me out here please? I need some more context on the technical side in order to prepare for the cases and was wondering if they dived deeper into the algorithms or was it simple calculations and recommendations to business?

Hi there, Thank you for sharing your experience. Just a quick question - do you remember how long you waited till you heard back after the business case interview stage? Thanks!
