Pros

TELUS is a great place to work because they have an open line of communication between those employees on the front lines and upper management. Feedback regarding your job is always welcome and when appropriate, our recommendations for improvement are put into practise. The wages are above average for similar work at other organizations, and the benefits are very good. There is room for self-growth and professional advancement, and opportunities are based upon merit as well as seniority. Hard work is rewarded and excellence is encouraged. They are very focused on continuing to educate employees to better serve our clients and overall, the environment is one of constant change and development.

Cons

The department I work for does not offer a steady schedule. You can work anytime from 8 am to 9 pm, Monday through Saturday, and your shifts change each week. This makes it difficult to arrange for child care or post secondary education while continuing to work. Many people who leave do so to better facilitate these life changes.

Pros

As a post-secondary student I make better than average money as a part-time employee. I've worked for the company for several years in Atlantic Canada. These stores are some of the busiest in the Country and we pride ourselves on providing exceptional customer service and support. As such, our wages are respectable due to the commission received from a high and reliable flow of new and returning customers. Relationships between fellow sales reps can best be described as 'dynamic.' If your laid-back and tolerant it's a great place to meet new people and make lifelong friends.

Cons

Having worked with the company for considerable time, I have observed and participated its growth and success. My biggest concern relates to staffing issues. From my experience, Telus under-staffs its stores. Reps often find themselves working overtime, 40+ hours a week. Many reps have been forced into working 8-12 hour days. This occurs monthly due to a combination of overlapping vacation and sick hours. A rep(s) will call in sick during the week and often someone will be forced to stay and work a 12 hour day because there is no one available to cover due to other reps being on vacation. As it stands, in most stores there is someone on vacation almost every week of the year. Some students have been guilted and coerced into working the night before an evaluation. In extreme cases they've worked just 30 mins before an evaluation. If a part-timer does work over 8 hours on a particular day, managers will often fix the payroll so that your extra hours are filed as a separate shift on a different day. Thus preventing reps from getting paid overtime when possible.

Pros

overall the company has a real friendly to the public and it is proud to be a part of TELUS

Cons

when you are off you are not actually off, phone still rings all sort of strange hours. Team politics due to tight budget. Raises are almost non existant. Got a 0.20 /hour raise after 14 months. The compensation I am receiving is totally not align with inflation. I am also one of the highest performing employee on my team and my manager knows that.
