Pros

1. Has embraced remote-friendly work for the past many years 2. Health benefits are okayish, but the coverage seems to reduce every year

Cons

This is going to be a long long list, so bear with me. 1. As I mentioned in the title, the company has no idea what they want to be and how to grow their bottom line. It is a company that tries to change things every six months. For the life of me, I could never understand how the leadership is so clueless. Restructuring is probably their favourite term ever. Every time they are stuck, which happens every few months, they resort to restructuring and letting go of people as part of this exercise. 2. This brings me to their never ending cycle of layoffs. As I said before, the company has no idea of how to grow their bottom line, so all they can think of is cutting costs (read: let go of people). Good, capable people are let go regularly while people who have been at the company for 20 years or so just keep moving from one team or portfolio to another. These so called veterans are mediocre at best and hence absolutely incapable of finding work outside but the severance would likely be high, so the company keeps them on the payrolls. 3. The company boasts of how they are much more than a telecom company, what with their Health and Agriculture portfolios, but the fact is that they have no clue what to with it. Every few months, they change things hoping something will stick, but it is still the same clueless bunch of people moving around portfolios and using fancy terms in the hope of getting a promotion. 4. The concept of innovation is alien to most people here. There is zero innovation and the entire focus is on immediate gains. There is no long term plan or vision. All they can do is look at what competitors are doing in Canada and match their pricing. It is no coincidence that all the big telcos here have similar pricing, if not identical. 5. The day to day work is extremely chaotic and most of it is ad hoc. The leaders think of something new every other day, and the entire team keeps scrambling around to figure out how to please the boss. The time that they spend on formatting presentations and finding out some obscure data points would be much better spent on figuring out a long term plan for the company. 6. As with many other companies, promotions are handed out to people who are ready to say yes to everything their manager says. The manager’s demands are illogical a lot of times, but if you point that out, rest assured that it will reflect in your appraisal. You cannot have any self-respect if you want to rise up the ladder here. I can go on and on but hopefully this helps. TLDR: Stay away from this company.

A disheartening decline

Pros

A few years ago, the company prioritized both customers and frontline agents, creating a supportive and growth-oriented environment. It was previously known as a safe place to work, with clear paths for career advancement.

Cons

Corporate greed x100. The focus has shifted from employee and customer satisfaction to maximizing profits at any cost. They started laying off employees to replace them with offshore agents, reducing job security for current employees. Employees are being forced into Voluntary Separation Programs (VSPs) under the guise of voluntary exits, leaving them with no real choice. The environment is now fraught with anxiety, with employees fearing that any mysterious meeting could signal their termination.
