Pros

Get paid to sit at home all day without anyone contacting you or sending you out to work for weeks at a time apart from the odd bit of training.

Cons

Very misleading recruitment process and interview process. I was put into a completely different role as to what I was recruited for. All the information i had to rely on before signing a contract was very misleading. The company seems very disorganised and inconsistent information. My experience was extremely stressful which caused a lot of anxiety and did affect my wellbeing over the three months of employment. Spent more time charging the van than actual physical work. Multiple team leaders non of whom seem to be given the full picture of Octopus. This leads to inconsistent information being given to engineers. Inadequate training for those with no electrical experience which is leading to poor standards, poor quality and sub standard installations. Poor pay which doesn’t recognise the difference between highly skilled and qualified electricians with years of experience and absolute beginners, which is insulting.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. While we understand that your experience with us was disappointing, we genuinely appreciate your comments. As you know, we are in the process of expanding our business with the addition of heat pumps. We strive to ensure that every new team member is supported and that the setup works for both them and the organisation; unfortunately, it seems that this was not achieved in your case. We make a concerted effort to accommodate everyone's needs and encourage open communication. We regularly distribute surveys to ensure that all voices are heard and valued. Additionally, we have a dedicated training team to help individuals develop their skills, in all areas of their roles, and we look at recruiting both experienced and those with potential to add to our ranks. There was certainly no intention to cause offense. Building the foundational aspects of any business requires time, and we are always in search of individuals who align with our vision. We regret that you were unable to find your fit at Octopus and wish you the best in your future endeavours. Ben Guest, Field Operations Director

Pros

Training and first few months were enjoyable.

Cons

They say if you don't like the culture then it's not for you and you're free to leave but that's just an excuse not to budge. They have their own mantra but it's all based around making sure they can make you work however hard they want to. Some experienced members of the team told me their complaints personally where they felt their complaints weren't listened to anymore. Our team leader was a very very inconsiderate person who brought the whole teams spirit down on a daily basis, everyone had a fake mask over their face just trying to fit in. It was soul crushing.

Hello, Thank you for your candid feedback. I'm really sorry that you've left Octopus with such a bad impression. I am really proud of the open feedback culture that we've been creating in Leicester although it sounds like your experience hasn't lived up to that. We've done a lot of work to create ways for teams to feedback (inc anonymously) to any of the managers in the site regardless of position. I'm sorry that this hasn't allowed you to come forward and feel heard. Although you are no longer with us, I would love the chance to speak to you about your time with us and hear more about your experience. It sounds like your views might be shared with others in the team so I would like the chance to put things right but also hope that talking through this might be useful for you also. My contact details are below if you felt comfortable reaching out and we can keep this on a confidential basis if that helps reassure you. Kind regards Matt Pearson Head of Operations matt.pearson@octoenergy.com

Hello, Thank you for leaving us a review and sharing your experience at Octopus Energy. It's good to hear that there were some good points about working with us and our location is good. I'm sorry that there were some things that you did not enjoy. With regards to the working hours, we try to make it really clear during the hiring process that we don’t have a traditional ‘clock in clock out culture’. A key part of how we work at Octopus is how our teams look after their own customer base. We believe this creates a better customer experience but we do appreciate that it can occasionally require the team to work a bit later to catch up on work. However, on the occasions where teams do decide to work late, it’s certainly not compulsory and is often a decision made by the team themselves. On the flip side, we really do pride ourselves on being flexible with our team members in return. For example, when it comes to people needing to leave early due to personal situations, appointments, house viewings etc we always try to accommodate and rarely say no to these sorts of requests. Regarding pay, we’ve done a lot of work over the last 18 months to make pay fair & rewarding. We’ve introduced a company-wide inflation process to make sure people’s pay doesn't go backwards and is in line with cost of living and we regularly benchmark our salaries in each of the local job markets. We also have our skills academy that allows you to earn more money by learning new skills & knowledge and this can be achieved at the pace you wish to go. Thank you for your feedback, we are always looking for ways to improve and continue to make this a great place to work. We wish you all the best in your new role. Please drop me a line via email or LinkedIn and we can go from there if you would like to discuss any of these points further. Kind regards Fay Olner, Site Operations Manager
