Pros

Very employee friendly, I had a great supportive boss, this is a truly global company and I was lucky to travel and visit many office locations all over the world. My coworkers were really nice. The company generously invests in training. Nokia reflects the Finnish way of life where work life balance is very strongly respected, employee benefits are solid including a 401 k match and generous PTO. I loved the work and being at Nokia and the company consistently lived up to its values. I left Nokia after a round of layoffs but I would return if the opportunity presents again.

Cons

Cash comp was on the lower side and equity was not impressive but there were several other perks (like PTO, 401k match, work life balance) that sort of made up some of the shortcomings. Overall Nokia is still finding its feet after the collapse of its mobile phone business. The mobile networks business while sizable is too cyclical and low margin mostly due to overwhelming opex costs. I also feel Nokia for its revenue and market cap size has a significantly large (>100k) employee base which will continue to hinder the company’s resurgence as a solid and nimble competitor to Chinese and American counterparts. The management is quite unsure and fickle minded about the business beyond mobile networks like software and consumer. So there is a lot of “one step forward and two steps back” initiatives that go around like the Ozo, Digital Health etc.

Pros

Fantastic European based company focused on skills and culture without the overly overt, necessity of degrees and diversity requirements seen with may other U.S. based companies. Great benefits, bleeding edge product and great people.

Cons

None. Just don't confuse HMD with actual Nokia. (Networks)

Pros

- Flexible timing depending on the project. - You can be below average and still stay here for years if you have good relationship with managers. - Paying rather good these days for lateral hires.

Cons

Boy, Where do I start ! - Line manager is everything here. And they really do not care about what you work on or how good is the quality in your work. They just listened to 1 or 2 senior people who have stayed in the same project for years. Some really pathetic manager have stuck in the company for years and completely ruined the atmosphere. - Full of below average people. It sounds ridiculous but students in high schools can do much better job than most people here. Whoever is here in the company for more than 3 years, they are just incapable of doing anything in the existing projects or getting a job outside. So they have made comfortable networks here. - 40% of the time is spent in meetings but no proper design discussions. Even if someone suggest some good designs or principle, it is never followed. - The senior people in the projects/products are dumb and have little knowledge of technology. They are always against new things as they are afraid that others will find out about their incompetence. - People who have done nothing but customer support with no engineering or even MBA background can be manager of R&D teams. - If you are a skilled talented engineer, you'll forget whatever you knew in a year or two doing the donkey job here. - People are mostly hired from two certain states in South India. They have extended networks in the company and if you are not from those states then you have no career here. - HR is almost non existent.
