Pros

Great team to work with, supportive colleagues. I feel able to be autonomous and am not micro managed, which I genuinely appreciate very much as I know how I work best.

Cons

Systems are archaic - it's like working in the 1970s. As such, they're incredibly inefficient. Nothing happens quickly. In the past two years in my current post the same discussions have been had about changing things to streamline referrals, and yet nothing has happened. I'm told that it's been the same discussion for the past 15 years. Management do not genuinely consult with staff, rather hold meetings where staff are often spoken over and their opinions are not heard, or if they are heard they are not honoured as genuine. While steps are being taken to modernise the systems used, such as upgrading to computer-based files, this is also happening very slowly.

Pros

The UK National Health service was built on great principles and to provide free health care to all. Recently with reduced resources and increased patient demands and expectations of the service it is starting to show signs of straining under the workload

Cons

With increased patient expectations and reduced readiness to accept personal responsibility, working within the NHS can often be a difficult role, though extremely rewarding during times you can help someone on the road to recovery of health.
