Pros

A good salary (to keep people n the job) and benefits.

Cons

If you've never worked anywhere else, this might seem like a great company to work for. However, if you've worked elsewhere, you'll see it for the nightmare it is! There is NO training. The systems are outdated and antiquated so there is no way to 'figure things out' -- which explains why so many work 12 hr days sometimes 6 days a week just to keep up!!! The extend of my training was to 'read the manual'. Turnover is EXTREMELY HIGH due to systems and management.

Pros

A good brand name. External employers think of it as a bastion of excellence.

Cons

It's a bureaucratic nightmare. People are over promoted. Far too many people at GCB4 and too many people at GCB3 who should be demoted and told to actually do some work. There is no downside to not doing a good job. This company tolerates underperformance. The turnover of good people is horrific. If they actually developed their top talent, they wouldn't be left with a bank that is riddled with people that have been there for 15 years plus and think they know EXACTLY how the place should work. They lack perspective. Know this - the only thing management give a monkeys about is progressing their career. Don't tell HR anything you wouldn't tell the CEO to his face. They are his henchmen.

Pros

If you want to work in an offshore sell side research or aspire to work in onshore sell side research but not getting opportunity, HSBC EDPI is the best organisation to work with. Being a captive unit of HSBC Research, you get to learn a lot during first two years of your career. This center provides support to the all the global offices of HSBC and other than marketing and speaking with clients you can literally do everything.

Cons

But you should leave organisation within 2-3 years, else you get stuck in your career because there are not enough opportunities available to move onshore. If you stay for more than three years, it will be difficult to get job elsewhere. Senior management is least interested in anyone's career. Most of the senior people are fighting for their own survival, because once this sort of set up does not need many senior management personnel.
