Pros

Great to have on your CV

Cons

* No progression, lack of development * Appraisals are 360 reports but management in China will downgrade you having never met you (affecting your pay and bonus) * No visibility on Levels which effect your pay and is subjective to who interviews you (colleagues with 20 years experience are levelled the same as a recent Grad) *Silo'd teams as lack of org charts (honestly don't know what half the people do there) * Processes, so many processes - everything has to go through 10+ people, half of them don't know why or what the project is. When (not if!) it's paused/rejected you have to start all over again * Management in China make no effort to understand the other regions, they just want you to copy and paste how they work (996) * Retention is poor - someone is leaving every day and the average time at TikTok is 14-18 months * Forcing people back to the office 5 days a week (and promote they are hybrid) * THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT D&I Honestly I could go on, it's great to have on your CV but it's not worth it, all you get is the name.

Pros

There are some truly fantastic and talented people in the company who make daily collaboration a great experience. Additionally, the insurance and overall health benefits package is quite strong and comprehensive.

Cons

The work culture is heavily driven by top-down directives from HQ, leaving little room for open discussion, transparency, or questioning management decisions. The bi-yearly rating cycle feels highly punitive and is frequently used to target individuals rather than foster growth, leading to an environment where anyone can be abruptly let go. Work-life balance is virtually non-existent due to tedious, high-volume workloads and constant alignment with overseas timelines. Furthermore, leadership instability is a constant concern; local management changes rapidly, frequently replaced by leaders from the parent company, creating an unpredictable and highly volatile work environment.
