Pros

Great opportunities when leaving the firm. Big 4 are known around the world and offer a lot of potential for making the most of your career. Everyone is very intelligent, helpful and supportive. You really notice this when you go out to clients and talk with people and realize the level of incompetence some companies hire people at. If your into traveling your going to do a lot of it (on the advisory side). I would say I travel 70%-90% of my time.

Cons

The hours can get pretty ruff at times. Work life balance is just a buzz word thrown around by HR and partners. The raises are above what you would find in the private industry and can range between 9%-15% but in today's economy that might be changing.

Pros

Ernst & Young looks good on a resume. Staff gains lots of experience with a varied and relevant group of companies. Some people might like staying in hotels and eating over priced meals while drinking copious amounts of alcohol.

Cons

Talent and competency are not rewarded as much as "billable hours" Efficiency is punished. The hours are typically long and the travel can be grueling. Sure, they give you 3 weeks paid paternity leave, but will your review reflect a lack of billable hours and get you fired when they run an algorithm to predict who should be "streamlined".
