Pros

The pension is good if you got in on the final salary scheme and BT don't ditch it. Holiday entitlement is good. Support for professional development & training is very good. Being a large company provides plenty of opportunity to move between different projects and even different work areas. Good culture & supportive colleagues.

Cons

Inept, ineffective & frankly de-motivating performance management system. Pay is relatively low; this is causing recruitment issues whereby the only way to get new staff in my area is to pay top of the pay range when more experienced staff are on substantially less. BT recognise the pay system has problems but consistently refuses to do anything about it.

Pros

average job security, average pension if you started before 2002.

Cons

management don't listen, cash is squandered at top level but penny pinch at engineering level.nobody knows who is doing what, but expect the engineer to do it all, every week they come up with an idea that seems to hinder going about the day to day running. BT tryed subcontracting cable jointing, but when they layed the subs off they came back and pinched the copper cable from underground.

Pros

Good work and life balance. A large percentage of the employees in the US work from home offices. Starting vacation is 15 days even for entry level. But in addition, each also employee receives 5 floating holidays. Essentially, each employee starts with 4 weeks of vacation time.

Cons

Promotions rarely happen within an organization unless you are recommended for or apply for an open position at a higher pay scale. But it's easy enough to change positions within the company. Job postings are readily available online.
