Pros

Although it sounds cliché, the firm truly does hire some amazing people and you will likely grow very close with your coworkers (even if it's a trauma bond).

Cons

Where do I even begin? The hours are grueling and they are not forthcoming about this in the interview process, as you are working 8am-6pm MINIMUM and will likely be working 65+ hours per week. Everyone that I know that has worked at AlphaSights has dealt with overwhelming amounts of anxiety and depression related to their jobs. I am not exaggerating when I say that I felt like a physical weight had been lifted off of my chest when I gave my two weeks notice because I used to get so anxious at the office that I was prescribed anti-anxiety medications for the first time in my life. The firm only promotes from within, so your boss will likely be 25-27 years old with no management experience which makes the whole office feel like the blind leading the blind. Your day consists of cold calling and harassing professionals on LinkedIn, as well as 2-3 DAILY check-ins with your manager and your team to make sure you're doing what you're supposed to be doing. Salaries for associates living in NYC/SF are not adequately adjusted to the number of hours you will be working, nor the cost of living in these cities. The unremarkable pay is absolutely not worth your mental health nor the time you must put into the role if you don't want to be forced out or fired. They are constantly hiring young, impressionable college kids/recent grads who just need a first job out of school and then completely chew them up and spit them out which is why most people do not make it a year, much less 2 or 3. As an associate, you have a six month "integration" period where, if you don't hit your sales metric even by the tiniest bit (even if there are extenuating circumstances), you will be fired which they do NOT tell you during the interview process. Even after integration, one bad month of missing your sales metric, even by the smallest amount, will cause your manager and VP to threaten your job security. Although AlphaSights brags about its "alumni" and the supposedly great exit opportunities, you will learn very few hard skills (most PE and consulting firms aren't impressed by your ability to stalk someone on LinkedIn). All in all, if you are bright enough to be hired by AlphaSights, you deserve better and I recommend you look for that.

Pros

For recent post-grads, despite the various negative reviews, I genuinely believe this is a great job to expose yourself to new industries, universal skill sets, and have colleagues who are also experiencing a new city/life post-grad with you. During my time, here I've admittedly developed a lot of foundational business skills that I can take with me in my next role. I also have experienced very positive and encouraging managers. I am not ignorant to the fact that this is not always the case, but I have nothing bad to say about any manager on my segment.

Cons

Before diving into the cons, I think it is fair to admit that your first job will almost never be your last job. But with this said, there is a reason they almost exclusively hire fresh college graduates. Work hours are ridiculous. No one can convince me that working 10+ hours a day PLUS monitoring weekend calls is normal, unless you are working at a more prestigious company. It bothers me that management seems to celebrate associates who work past 6pm and frown on those who leave promptly at 6pm. Another monumental con is the bonus structure. There have been months where I have maximized inputs, but failed to reach the hurdle because of external factors. This is extremely discouraging. Lastly, I am shocked by their lack of diversity in their hiring.
