Pros

Free snacks and nice office (but you will practically have to live there) Salary for a graduate sounds OK but when you work out the hourly rate it is pretty bad Will make you appreciate every other job you have, as nothing is quite as bad as AS (they rely on hiring people with no prior job experience and have nothing to compare it to)

Cons

If you're applying and you're not sure what you will be doing at AS let me explain: you will do mass searches for people on LinkedIn using key words (they call this research), you then spam everyone you find using an automated message, cold call everyone you can... If anyone agrees to work on your 'project' you will then act as a secretary and set up calls between them and the client. You will do this for minimum 10 hours a day (normally more like 12), every day, potentially for years, until you realize you need to leave. The contracted hours are 8.30-6.30 with no flexibility (apart from when you take you lunch break - which I was told was a perk of the job – although many people don’t take a lunch break). There is no possibility to wfh as ‘that’s not possible for this kind of work’ (not sure which part of going on LinkedIn and cold calling can’t be done from home). Please don’t join if you enjoy doing things outside of work as you will be encouraged to stop doing these. You will only be hired if you 1. look good on LinkedIn (they like fancy university names and good-looking people) 2. sound good on the phone (they love a posh kid) 3. can speak multiple languages (allows you to cold call more people). I would highly recommend not applying here if you like analytical work and using your brain, as unfortunately that won't be used here. It will also be extremely difficult to leave as you work 24/7 and people know what expert networks do now so lying on your CV probably won’t work. The only skills you will develop at AS are how to search and copy/paste on LinkedIn, and the ability to cold call. Obviously if working for an Expert Network is your dream career then this is a great place to start – for anyone thinking about it as a spring board please think twice. You will regret it.

Thanks for taking the time to review us - Our industry is hyper-competitive, as most service industries tend to be. Our clients are demanding professionals at top investment firms, consultancies and corporations. They have the choice to work with whom they like. It is on us to deliver top quality and put in the work it takes to keep winning our clients’ business. It is a great role for people who want to work in business, have immediate impact and grow their commercial skills, but who don’t want to go into consulting or finance. Best Dominique, SVP

Pros

I will say that the office does work to give employees perks (it's as if they know it's a bad job so they try and make outside of work as best as possible). The kitchen was STOCKED, there were drinks every Wednesday and team bonding activities once a month. Additionally, now that I've worked at other companies, I've come to appreciate Alphasights' feedback culture. While I do believe once a week was too often, having a set time to receive feedback does help your development. I definitely walked out with better time management, multi tasking, and prioritization skills. (You won't really cultivate any hard skills here).

Cons

The actual work is awful. The work at times can be truly mind numbing. You essentially do the same thing every day and do not need to use any critical thinking skills ever. Taking the time to think things through will actually put you behind the timeline and cut into your earnings. (I suggest reading other reviews about the toxic bonus structure). You're essentially an over glorified secretary for consultants. My team treated the consultants like they were gods-- you weren't allowed to even send them an email for your first few months and afterwards every word in your email would get checked over. There was insane micromanagement (my manager once corrected how I was sitting at my desk...) Your experience culture-wise will definitely vary based on your business unit and team, but the work is pretty uniform. However, at the end of the day it is a good salary for a job where you don't have to use your brain.

At AlphaSights, we hire ambitious professionals who want to own results, build a track record of achievement, and accelerate their careers. We accept that we are not a place for everyone. As a large-scale graduate employer, we naturally serve as a springboard for early-stage career professionals who are attracted to AlphaSights for the transferability of skills and the optionality of taking on new roles later on. We are proud to see AlphaSights alumni go on and succeed across multiple fields, including finance (Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, etc.), technology (Amazon, Google, Meta, Salesforce, etc.), business school (Harvard, Insead, LBS, Stanford, Wharton, etc.) and entrepreneurship (Days Brewing, Dialectica, Tegus, Tribe, etc.) Fundamentally, we exist to deliver success to our clients, and to power career advancement for our people. Our track record shows that when we deliver along these dimensions, company success follows. - The AlphaSights Team

Pros

- Very nice office - Stocked kitchen with beer for after work (which can be very late) - Good compensation - Frequent company events in and out of the office

Cons

- Upper Management is tenured and out of touch with what is actually going on. They don't add any value and don't do anything on a daily basis besides catch up with people (which helps no one) - Hours are getting longer and your success is largely up to what client accounts you've been given to run - Your interest in specific clients is not taken into account, you're staffed based on organizational needs - It is difficult to keep new employees motivated...consistently hiring curious, smart, driven individuals and then not challenging them creates issues for those trying to lead - The "opportunity" you get to lead is put on top of your other responsibilities so the longer you're here the more overwhelming it gets
