I applied in-person. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at Starbucks (Mesa, AZ) in Sep 2014
Interview
The process was very simple for me. I was in the process of promoting and had to pass the interview to be deemed ready. However, the interview did not describe much of what the position actually was. It was a simple behavioral interview asking questions that pertained to situations we had dealt with, how and the resolution. There were no questions relating to anything we do on a daily basis.

Question 1
Tell me about a time you had a difficult conversation with a barista. What was the situation, how did you handle it, and what did you learn from it?
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Starbucks in Mar 2015
Interview
I had a call from a Recruiter and had a brief 30 minute on-phone interview with her, followed by an interview date. Met with 2 District Managers at a local store. I was offered a coffee tasting to start the interview. There was a short dialogue regarding my reason for applying to the company. After that, the two DMs fired scripted scenario questions at me for about a half hour. Expressions were deadpan. No dialogue following my responses. They each scribbled down notes. They asked if I had any questions. At the end of the interview, I was told that I would have a decision within 5 days. It was one of the most unsettling interviews I ever went through. Could not read if I did well or not, no conversation. . I received an e-mail at the end of that time from the recruiter saying I was not being considered.

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Starbucks (Orland Park, IL)
Interview
I applied online, and got a call back from a recurring rep. She was very friendly and very informative, I completed the virtual job tryout,(which I personally found a breeze) and went on to my phone interview. The rep explained that she felt I'd be better suited for the assistant manager position, So I could learn the "Starbucks Way" and explained that the assistant man. position was temporary, and basically training to be a store manager. I was excited to nail my in person interview. I showed up about 15 minutes early, and was given a free drink. I was interviewed by 2 district managers, who were about 30 minutes late. They were more interested in gossiping, and discussing their upcoming summer vacations than interviewing me. I pretty much hung out with strangers for about an hour and a half. At the end, they pretty much told me that my 4 years of management experience wasn't up to par, and they thought I'd be best at entry level.
The higher ups are wonderful, and really trying to build solid teams in the stores, but the dms need a serious reality check. I would have really liked to be apart of the Starbucks team, but the company really needs to take a better look at the people they put in charge of running multiple stores.
