The hiring process at Databricks takes an average of 60 days when considering 2 user submitted interviews across all job titles. Candidates applying for Big Data Architect had the quickest hiring process (on average 60 days), whereas Big Data Architect roles had the slowest hiring process (on average 60 days).
Initial interviews where by video call, 30 mins to assess fitness/value/what you (might be) looking for. Questions were reasonable enough, most were fairly predictable but there were a few stand-out ones (retrospective of previous people you enjoyed working with and why). Process was ok, though there was some inefficient communication with HR (e.g. asking to please give us some slots for the next interview, but failing to mention the interviewer was 9 timezones away). Technical screening interview was also fine - really enjoyed discussing the interview problem and what it was like to work at DataBricks.
Moved to on-site round. Whilst I could have maybe been more proactive in giving more information, the questions from their side were almost identical to the screening ones. Areas they had signalled as important didn't come up (growth/recruitment). Instead there was focus on things like executing product strategy. Questions didn't really align with job description at the time, looks like its more up-to date now.
Happy I got as far as I did - on site was underwhelming, and it cost me a days vacation.

Question 1
Describe a previous project manager you enjoyed working with.
I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Databricks (Tokio)
Interview
Many rounds interviews,
Almost giving offer, ended up with a sudden rejection . Due to their VP resigned..
The company is really terrible, check other interviews, your would know I’m telling the truth
I applied through other source. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Databricks (Bengaluru) in Nov 2019
Interview
"It is Disheartening when you are made to go through 11 Gruelling rounds [with no clear vision and requirement/expectation of this role function] and to be told, WE ARE UNSURE and put on HOLD"
The Interview process began by late Oct'19 where i was reached by hiring manager or so called via LinkedIn. While the initial conversations went well i was clear in SETTING EXPECTATION on my current skill set as the Technology with Databricks is absolutely Alien. I was given the confidence by the hiring manager to proceed further.
This here it started the 2 month interview process which took me 11 rounds [No this is not Google :) ] and by the end of it i was told that they have doubts on required technical skillset. Now this is what i call no Vision and clarity from Leadership as i have been very Vocal and crystal from Day 1 that i do not have the required technical skillset but still i was put through to this with no empathy on the candidate and their time [All these were done considering i was already working in Pacific time for my current employer].
So to potential candidates, please watch out if you are someone who is being approached for this role by India team.
So to sum up, i am disheartened after having to go through 2 months and yet there is no Clarity from LEADERSHIP, well thats none of my problem isnt it!
